Industry Leaders Sign B.C’s First Health & Safety Charter

lpc_conference_header

(Vancouver, B.C., October 28, 2011): Twenty-three CEO’s and Senior Executives from around British Columbia signed-on to a landmark document, the Health & Safety Leadership Charter, representing a commitment to lead and promote the highest level of health and safety culture within their organizations. Dave Anderson, President and CEO of WorkSafeBC, was the inaugural endorser of the Charter, the first of its kind in the province.

The Charter was introduced at the Leading Performance Conference, a day-long conference on health & safety that included speakers and attendees from WorkSafeBC, Rio Tinto Alcan, Pacific Environmental Consulting, and many of the province’s top leaders from the manufacturing sector. The Conference was organized and hosted by the FIOSA-MIOSA Safety Alliance of B.C., a non-profit association representing B.C.’s food & beverage processing and manufacturing industries.

These 23 signatories to the Health & Safety Leadership Charter represent the first step towards the Alliance’s 150@2015 goal of having 150 of B.C.’s senior executives sign the Charter by 2015. FIOSA-MIOSA Safety Alliance’s CEO Lisa McGuire says the Charter is an important starting-point for leaders.

“The Charter is a public declaration to our employees, customers and the communities we serve that we value health & safety” said McGuire. “We’re encouraging leaders to add their signatures, demonstrating a commitment to providing a prevention-based workplace culture.”
