Maureen Shaw Presented Governor General’s Award

Maureen Shaw Presented Governor General’s Award - Maureen Shaw, known as ‘the Mother of Health and Safety in Canada’, was presented with the Diamond Jubilee Medal Governor General’s Award in Ottawa Monday morning.

She received the prestigious award, “For her leadership in occupational health and safety, corporate social responsibility and education for manufacturing workers.”

The awards were given to 60 Canadians at Rideau Hall Monday morning by Governor General David Johnston as the first of a series of national gestures to mark Queen Elizabeth’s Diamond Jubilee – the 60^th anniversary of her accession to the throne.

Maureen Shaw Maureen is President of Act Three Consulting, and the former President and Chief Executive Officer of IAPA (Industrial Accident Prevention Association). She has a long and respected history of leadership in health and safety in Canada and beyond.

She was instrumental in the organization and success of FIOSA-MIOSA’s Leading Performance CEO Conference in October of 2011 which led to the first ever BC Leadership Health & Safety Charter.

Maureen has been the recipient of many national and international awards for her work and her commitment to health and safety keeps her busy. She currently serves or has served on:

• Mental Health Commission of Canada Advisory Committee on Workplace Mental Health.

• Board of Directors for the Radiation Safety Institute.

• Executive in Residence at the Banff Centre of Management.

In November of 2009 Maureen was recognized by the International Labour Organization (ILO) for her “contribution and commitment to the worldwide advancement of occupational safety and health and at her retirement from 15 years as President and CEO of the IAPA she was bestowed the title of “the Mother of Health and Safety in Canada”.
